John Maxwell Gets It

by Elmer Boutin Marketing

As part of my participation in Thomas Nelson’s BookSneeze book blogger program, I recently received a copy of John Maxwell’s “Everyone Communicates Few Connect.” I’ve only just started it, but I find it to be quite compelling already.

I missed a chance to attend a seminar hosted by Southwest Media Group in Dallas last month because of some business obligations. Thankfully, they were nice enough to send me a bag of SWAG, in which was included a copy of “The Chaos Scenario” by Bob Garfield

One Reason Not To Link Your Twitter Feed to Facebook

by Elmer Boutin Marketing

A colleague is working on a couple of corporate Facebook fan pages. She suggested we add the company’s Twitter feed to the fan pages so the tweets would show there. I replied that I didn’t think it was a good idea.

Last week I wrote about the Dave Ramsey EntreLeadership Seminar I attended. I mentioned at the end of the post that I was going to make it a goal to list some books to read and read them before the end of the year. I thought it would be nice to share the list I made with you.

Opportunities Abound

by Elmer Boutin Marketing

The main reason I hang out in the social media space is because you never know who you’re going to meet and what kind of things you can get involved with. I thought I’d cover some details which I wish had been covered better in the piece.

Training Is Essential

by Elmer Boutin Leadership

I needed to pick up something on the way home, so I stopped in one of the local mass merchandisers. I quickly found the item I needed and headed to the checkout. No line, wonderful! “Seek and destroy shopping at its best,” I thought to myself, “in and out in less than five minutes.” Ah, but it wasn’t to be. The nice lady working the cash register had no idea how to use it. She managed to scan the item I wished to purchase, but beyond that had no idea what to do. She called for a manager to come assist. Three times.

Still Think Socmed’s A Fad?

by Elmer Boutin Marketing

I noted an interesting parallel in the reasons given by some who feel participating in social media is not worth the effort because it’s a fad which will fade away. The reasons they give are the same given by those whom I courted in the late 1990s as customers of my web design business

Small Business Online Success Story

by Elmer Boutin General Marketing

A few months ago I expressed the opinion that small, local businesses do need a web site. I lamented the fact that I could not find my local mechanic’s phone number on line because they don’t have a web site. I did end up getting my car fixed there, but it still bugged me the shop doesn’t have a web site.
